Execute projects timely to avoid cost runs: PUC | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 31: Public Undertaking Committee (PUC) of Legislative Assembly has asked the officers of Power Development Corporation (PDC) to ensure completion of power projects on time to avoid cost overruns. Committee which met under the Chairmanship of Rafi Ahmad Mir here today examined the audit paras pertaining to PDC of 2009-10. Committee desired to carry out on-the-spot inspection to have more familiarity about execution of the projects. It was given out that 17 projects with a total capacity of 1897 MWs are under execution in the State under various sectors. Addressing the meeting, Rafi stressed the need to benchmark timely completion of power projects, saying expeditious execution of these would help to have dependable power supply in place. Self sufficiency in energy sector, he said is vitally needed to spur economic growth and enhance standard of living. Chairman said that J&K is fortunate to have 20,000 MWs identified hydro-electric potential, highlighting need to tap in a systematic and scientific way, adding planned harnessing will catalyze economic prosperity of the State. Legislators, Mohammad Yousuf Taing, Advocate Abdul Haq, Kafeel-ur- Rehman and Charanjit Singh gave their valuable suggestions for settlement of audit paras.
