| Meeting discusses measures to check begging menace in Katra town | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
KATRA, May 31-
Government functionaries, civic authorities, representatives of NGO’, traders’ organizations and civil society of Katra today discussed measures to check menace of begging in the holy town at a meeting held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Reasi, Nasir I Parae.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC sought the cooperation of the business community of the town to control the menace of begging. He also sought the suggestions from the members of the civil society, NGOs and political representatives of various parties to check begging and child labour in the town. He said that district administration will take stern action against the business establishment who employee children as labourers and helpers at their business establishments. He directed the SHO Katra to remove the hoarding of Kanya Pujan installed in the town by various shop-keepers, which is also acting as a source of begging. He also issued instructions to Naib Tehsildar, Katra to provide detail report about the number of children and others persons found begging in the town.
The participants also gave their suggestions for checking the begging and child labour, which include opening of women cell in the town to deal with female beggars.
