No recognition to new pvt schools where govt schools exist: Peerzada | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 31: Jammu and Kashmir Government will strictly adhere to the policy of not recognizing any private educational institution in an area where government school is already functioning in the state. Education Minister, Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed said here today that norms set for opening of schools, be it private or the government run institution, apply to all. “The norms apply to private schools equally”, the Minister said while chairing a high powered meeting to review the performance and achievements registered during the last financial year, adding that the step is aimed at covering such areas which lack the facilities of educational intuitions. The meeting also discussed targets set for the current financial year. The Minister asked the concerned to check feasibility of opening of private schools before recommending these to ensure that a new institution is not set up where government institution already exists. The Minister noted with satisfaction that the literacy rate in the Jammu region has increased from 55.5% in 2001 to 68.74 in 2011 with female literacy registering 15 per cent increase from 43 per cent to 58.01per cent. Similarly, the male literacy rate has increased from 66.6 per cent to 78.26 per cent with 11 per cent. Female literacy rate in Poonch and Kishtwar has also increased substantially. The meeting also discussed the bottlenecks and flaws in the effective implementation of SSA, RMSA, Mid Day Meal and other schemes. Various measures were discussed to bring about transformation in the working at all the levels for making these schemes result oriented. The Minister said that no new targets will be given to the officers who carry backlog and the shortcomings would reflect in their performance reports. For effective implementation of SSA, Mid Day Meal, RMSA like schemes, the Minister emphasized the need for third party evaluation. The Minister said transfer of teachers would not be effected during the mid session. He set a target for officers to train 15000 teachers in DIETs in a year in specific subjects to meet the requirements in schools. Reviewing Mid Day Meal, the Minister directed the concerned to implement the scheme as per set guidelines and ensure that benefits of the scheme percolate down to the bonafide students.
