Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 31: Activists of Jammu University Research Scholar’s Executive Association (JURSEA) today lodged strong protest against the state government for delay in starting academic session of Central University (CU) Jammu.
Addressing the gathering, JURSEA President Rakesh Chib said that inordinate delay in starting university has deprived thousands of students and scholars of the opportunity of seeking admission and pursuing research courses. He also said that any further delay in the launch of the university would result in wastage of the next academic session as well creating further apprehensions in the minds of general public of Jammu.
He said that conflicting signals were emanating from different quarters regarding the appointment of Vice-Chancellor of the said Jammu Central University giving rise to further uncertainties and misgivings among the people of Jammu. He further stressed that the local aspirations of the public for appointment of local Vice-Chancellor needed to be honored as Jammu has several eminent scholars and educationists of repute, who had established their credentials at national and even international level.
The National Secular Forum (NSF) also held protest demonstration and surrounding the office of DSW in Jammu University (JU) demanding Student Union election at the earliest.
The agitating students and scholars, under the leadership of NSF president Vikas Sharma, raised slogans against the University administration for its failure in conducting students union elections without which students are feeling aggrieved and helpless..
He urged the Chancellor and Pro Chancellor to intervene to ensure early student union election. "It is important to ensure democratic rights of students in campus. But, without the election of representatives it is not impossible. So we demand elections at the earliest. If this would not be done, they would be forced to start agitation", he added.
