BJP protests erratic power, water supply in city
5/31/2011 10:44:57 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 31:
Continuing with its campaign against shortage of power supply and drinking water and price-rise, BJP activists held massive protest demonstrations in Ward numbers 22 and 10 of Satwari and Jammu East Mandals.
In W No. 22, it was led by BJP State Vice-president Suresh Jamwal while in W.No. 10 it was led by State Secretary Yudhvir Sethi.
Suresh Jamwal, while addressing the party activists at Shastri Nagar said that the party has launched state wide campaign against poor supply of drinking water and electricity besides price-rise as the Congress led UPA and the NC-Congress coalition in the state have miserably failed to ensure regular and adequate supply of essential commodities besides checking the sky rocketing prices. She said that a common citizen is finding it very difficult to survive but the government is least concerned. She said that in these days when the temperature has already crossed 40 degrees, the long power cuts and inadequate supply of drinking water has resulted into resentment among the people as a result of which they are forced to come on roads. High claims of working towards development and mitigation of the sufferings of the people by ministers of state’s NC-Congress coalition has turned out to be hollow as even basic commodities are beyond the reach of a common man in the state. She asked the state Chief Minister to intervene and direct the concerned departments to supply adequate drinking water and regular electricity.
State Secretary Yudhvir Sethi, while addressing the protestors at Purani Mandi said that higher officials of PHE and PDD are sleeping like Kumbhkaran and the people are suffering. On one hand unscheduled power cuts are imposed on the other there is no supply of electricity. Not only this, the price rise is also adding to the problems of the people. After every 2-3 months, the Congress-led UPA makes rise in the prices of petroleum products, which affects the prices of other items. He said that the water pipes in many wards of the city are leaking and need immediate replacement as the little water that reaches the houses of people is polluted and unsafe for drinking. He said that the party activists will further intensify the campaign if the departments do not take immediate and effective steps to ensure regular supply of drinking water and electricity.
