Trauma hospital at Banihal soon: Sham

SRINAGAR, May 31: Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma inspected various hospitals located along Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and took stock of their functioning.
Institutions which were inspected included, Sub-District Hospitals, Ramban, Banihal, Emergency Hospital, Qazigund and Bijbehara Hospital. While reviewing the facilities in these hospitals, the Minister impressed upon the doctors and Para-medics to work with missionary zeal and dedication and maintain the sanctity of this noble profession. He said the government was keen to improve working conditions in the hospitals for the doctors and para-medics enabling them to deliver as per the expectations of the people.
During the past couple of years, a number of reformative measures have been initiated, which include timely conduct of DPCs, creation of new posts in different specialties, enhancement of incentives for the doctors, para-medics engaged under NRHM and ASHA workers and construction of residential quarters for the doctors near the hospitals. This all should improve functioning and delivery system, said Sharma.
Interacting with the people at Banihal, the Minister said that Government has already sanctioned a trauma hospital for Banihal and the construction work will start soon after acquisition of land. He maintained that the areas falling between Batote and Banihal are accident prone and trauma hospital would be instrumental to provide timely medicare during exigencies. He also issued instructions for completing the remaining work of new building in the hospital premises at the earliest.
At Emergency Hospital, Qazigund, the Minister asked the Director Health Services, to immediately get the lift of the hospital repaired so that the patients do not face any inconvenience. He also stressed on curbing the practice of referral system, saying that only critical cases should be referred to tertiary hospitals. The doctor while referring a case to other hospitals must record the specific reasons necessitating referral, he said.
The Minister also inspected an orchard-cum-nursery of horticulture department at Bijbehara. He directed the Director Horticulture to upgrade the existing nursery and develop more varieties of fruit plants for supply on subsidized rates.
