Chaman Lal Gupta expelled from BJP for six years | 'Sudden action to pre emt action against 4 MLAs...?' | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 31: In a sudden move, BJP's Parliamentary Board today announced expulsion of . Interesting, the decision was taken by the BJP 's higest decision making body a day after Gupta issued letters to the four MLAs cautioning them on facing show cause notices for 'coducting' themselves as dissident group. Gupta had given two days time to these MLAs to explain their position . seniormost party leader in the state Prof Chaman Lal Gupta from the primary membership for six years
Though Prof Gupta along with isx other MLAs accused of having indulged in cross voting during the Legislative Council Polls, is facing discplinary proceedings from the high level Disciplinary Action Committee set up for the purpose by the high command, the Parliamentary Board today came out with its sudden decision after it held meeting at New Delhi this evening.
"The Parliamentary Board has noted with concern the continued anti-party activities of Gupta.,,,,, though he has already been suspended from the party on the charge of anti-party activity, he continues to behave and conduct himslef as leader of the Legislature Party..... he has also issued showcause notice to four BJP MLAs," said senior leader Ananth Kumar in a statement soon after Parliamentary Board met and took this decision.
"This, the Parliamentary Board treats as a further case of gross indiscipline and resolves to expel Gupta from the primary membership of the BJP for a period of six years with immediate effect," Kumar said. However, according to reliable sources the BJP Parliamentary Board took this decision to pre empt any 'action' against party's four MLAs who have been given clean chit in the cross voting matter. Sources said though party high command has been adopting go slow process in its disciplinary proceedings since the issue is loaded with legal and constitutional complexities, the Board which has seniormost leaders as members including the top politicians like LK Advani, Arun Jaitely, Sushma Swaraj, Rajnath Sing besides national president Nitin Gadkari and other leaders many of whom are legal experts deemed it proper to take this decision before Prof Gupta taook any possible action against the four whom party has given the clean chit. Since Prof Gupta alonsg with other six MLAs is camping in Srinagar for the last few days, it had become abundantly clear for the party leadership that he is getting support from 'concerned quarters' in all the moves he took in asserting himself as leader of the entire Legislature Party.
While this decision has been conveyed to Gupta, the party is in the process of communicating it to the Speaker and BJP state unit chief.
