JAMMU | NOV 21 The three day international conference on world peace role of human rights and religion at Edmonton in Canada was a unique gathering of eminent scholars and statesmen from various parts of the world observed Balraj Puri, who returned here yesterday after attending it. According to press release Puri has expressed satisfaction over recognition of human rights as a crucial factor in ensuring world peace. As far religion was concerned he conceded that moral and spiritual beliefs of its followers were no threat to peace, he warned that recognition of religion as an exclusive basis of human identity would lead to fanaticism and intolerance. He said, for other identities of human being of the followers of every religion like ethnicity, nation, culture and language were no less important. In a way a singular exclusive identity unintentionally lent support to Huttington theory of clash of civilization, Puri added. He exposed the fallacy of assuming religion as the only basis of civilization. For all ancient civilizations Chinese, Indian, Arab, Persian, Greek and Roma, has many religious feature. Nov could western civilizations be called Christian, as it had inherited all earlier civilizations said. During the tour Puri interacted with leading academicians and public figures and addressed gathering in Canada and Britain. In UK he received rousing reception by Mirpuris settled in Birmingham. In London, he addressed meeting of J&K Diaspora and visited London School of Economics and Political Science and Amnesty International.
