PYC leader demands uninterrupted power supply in city
6/1/2011 9:12:29 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 1:
Senior leader of Pradesh Youth Congress Committee Narinder Gupta has expressed concern over the electricity curtailment in Jammu city and demanded uninterrupted power supply in all those areas where the electronic meters have been installed.
Gupta said that in the year 2009 Principal Secretary to government, J&K Power Development Department instructed the Chief Engineer M&RE wing vide his order No. DC/PD/To-1/30/3109 dated 11-01-2010 that all industrial and other bulk connections with load of 1 MVA and above be provided with check meters. Accordingly, Principal Secretary PDD asked the Chief Engineer PDD to finish the list and cost involved of all such connections having a load of 1 MVA and above, besides the requirement of meters and CTPT units for PHE, irrigation and other government installations where metering has not been done. But the above order was remained in files only and not a single meter and CTPT units have been installed so far.
He asserted that there is heavy consumption of power in industries and other commercial installations and these have not been covered under the check meters and there is every apprehension of theft of power, which directly affects the domestic power supply in the shape of scheduled and unscheduled cuts in power supply in Jammu province.
Gupta said that the PDD had assured the people before installing electronic meters that their will be no curtailment in the power supply after the installation of electronic meters. Presently almost all areas of Jammu city have been covered under electronic meters by the power department, but there is no improvement in the power supply. The department is collecting rent regularly from the domestic use of electricity and if there is any theft of power are discrepancy in this regard, is from the industrial sector, which should be streamlined.
Narinder Gupta drew the attention of Chief Minister who is also holding the charge of PDD towards this genuine problem of people and hoped that immediate measures will be taken to provide this basic amenity of life.
