CM concerned over trading of items branded Kashmir handicrafts | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 1: Taking a serious note of reports about trading of spurious items in the name of ''Kashmir Handicrafts'', Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said every effort would be made to curb this menace. In his interaction with a deputation of Shawl-makers Association during Awami Mulakat here today, the Chief Minister indicated his Government’s keen interest in the development and growth of indigenous handicrafts and the welfare of artisans associated with this industry. He assured the deputation that everything required would be done to curb the practice of trading spurious items in the name of ‘Kashmir Handicrafts’. It is being alleged that some traders are selling shawls and other items, imported from neighbouring state, in the name of Kashmiri products to tourists in the Valley and outside. Now '' Salwar Kameez'' suits, also imported from some northern states, are being sold as Kashmiri products, the association said. The police have recovered hundreds of kgs of fictitious saffron from some traders in district Pulwama last year. A large quantity of such saffron was also recovered from some traders in Dal lake area when they were selling it to tourists last summer, the delegation said.
