| Union govt to support state for improving medical infrastructure | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, June 1:
Union Minister for New and Renewal Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah today inaugurated a two day workshop on “Cochlear Implant and Micro-Ear Surgery” at Government Medical College (GMC), here.
The workshop was organized by Department of ENT and head and neck surgery, GMC, Srinagar.
Dr Abdullah on the occasion said that the Union government is keen to provide every possible support to the State Government for up gradation of medical infrastructure in the State. He said Cochlear Implant and Micro-Ear Surgery workshop will benefit the ENT surgeons and students immensely.
Dr Abdullah said that he would request the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for provision of adequate funds for promotion of Health and Medical sector in the State including the ENT. He said that expansion of the GMC, Srinagar would be made by acquiring adjacent land.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister for Medical Education and Youth Services and Sports R S Chib said that the Cochlear Implant and Micro-Ear Surgery is an innovative method performed in very few centers world over, adding that its commencement in GMC, Srinagar will improve the medical facilities available to the people of the State. He said this workshop is first of its kind in the State and shall provide an opportunity to witness live surgical demonstration of Micro- Ear Surgery and Cochlear Implant by eminent professionals, adding that it would enlighten the professional working in this field about the latest scientific know how which shall be instrumental for improvement of patient care.
