6/1/2011 10:28:01 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 1:
Various Sikh Organizations of J & K have demanded computation of death sentence given to Prof Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar to life imprisonment, as the killing of another person is not the solution of an emotional issue.
Avtar Singh Khalsa, president United Secular Forum Jammu, while addressing a joint press conference appealed to the government of India to take up the issue of computation of death sentence to life imprisonment of Prof. Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar as this would create a good will among the minorities in the country. He strongly advocated this cause and declared full support to the efforts being made by Sri Akal; Takhat Sahib and Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management committee in this regard.
Narbir Singh, president, Shiromani Youth Akali Dal, while stressing the demand for acceptance of mercy petition of Prof Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar, called upon the intelligence of the country to support this cause by raising their voices. He declared the support of Sikhs of J&K to all such efforts by one and all asking for clemency to the accused. .
Gajan Singh, general secretary, Sikh Welfare Society complimented government of India for deleting the names of 127 Sikhs from the black list which has sent a positive signal but by not getting the death sentence of Prof. Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar converted to life imprisonment this good will shall evaporate into the thin Air. He requested the Hon'ble Prime Minister to look into the matter sympathetically.
All the Sikh organizations also demanded constitution of a Special Investigation Team into the missing of a Sikh youth namely Vikram Singh (IIIrd officer) from a ship while on its way from Australia to Singapore on May 24.
