Delhi also humiliated Dogras | Dogra Certificate | | Neha EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 1: On April 28 this year, the NC-Congress coalition government "outraged the sentiments of the Dogras" by withdrawing its earlier order (March 25, 2011) that had relaxed rules governing recruitment to the central paramilitary forces. Ever since then, the Dogras have been roundly condemning the state government and accusing it of "dancing to the tunes of separatists, extremists and anti-Dogra elements in Kashmir." They do make a point when they take on the state government, dismiss it as "anti-Dogra and anti-Jammu" and accuse it of "undermining their identity" in its desperate bid to "appease those in Kashmir who not only want New Delhi to close down its politico-constitutional shop and quit Kashmir lock, stock and barrel, but also want to consolidate further the Kashmiri stranglehold over the Dogras and their land." Their formulations are well-founded. However, the enraged and estranged Dogras do exaggerate things when they hold NC-Congress coalition squarely responsible for what it did on March 25 to undermine and erode their identity. The coalition government is responsible and there should be no doubt it. But what about the Congress-led UPA Government in New Delhi? Did not the UPA Government side with the state government or did not it facilitate the revocation of the March 25 order? The agitating Dogras must understand that it was the UPA Government that not only made common cause with what they term as "anti-Jammu and anti-Dogra" state government, but also manipulated things in a fashion that ultimately led to the withdrawal of the March 25 order. The truth is that had the UPA not sided with the state government or had it not endorsed the anti-Dogra views as expressed by militants and separatists like Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, PDP leadership, Kashmir-based commentators and intellectuals and similar others in the Valley, the NC-Congress coalition government would not have been able to withdraw the March 25 order. It was New Delhi that conspired against the Dogras, who, among others, represent the nationalist constituency in the state but suffers at the hands of New Delhi because of their commitment to India. And, remember, it was not for the first time in April this year that New Delhi conspired against the Dogras to please the separatists and extremists in Kashmir. New Delhi has been conspiring against them ever since October 1947 and the immediate fall-out of the conspiracy hatched by the authorities in New Delhi was transfer of political power from Jammu to Kashmir. Jammu ruled over Kashmir for 101 years and the administration it handed down to the people of Kashmir was humane and people-centric. Hence, the grossly discriminated against and left-in-the-lurch-Dogras would do well to sit down and analyze what really has led to their socio-cultural and politico-economic degeneration. The real culprits are the Congress-led UPA and New Delhi. |
