EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 1: A day after BJP Parliamentary Board expelled veteran politician of the state Prof Chaman Lal Gupta from primary membership of party for six years, six MLAs who have been supporting him throughout ever since the cross voting episode, once again called on the Speaker of the Assembly Mohammad Akbar Lone today to 'repose' their confidence and support for him. Prof Gupta, who is also camping in Srinagar while denying having received any expulsion notice said he would not act in haste and continue to strengthen the 'party' he has nourished for past 65 years.
The six suspended MLAs today met Speaker in Srinagar and discussed the situation after the fresh development in terms of expulsion decision by the Parliamentary Board, while giving reference of the newspaper reports. The MLAs maintained that Speaker continues to consider Prof Chaman Lal Gupta as the leader of the Legislature Party and would continue so till any no confidence motion is moved against him.
Prof Gupta, on the other hand maintained he was only regretful of the way the party leadership is acting against him. "I fail to understand what is in their mind......they are not listening to, not to speak of considering the reply I have given in my defence........they have failed to answer my questions .....the approach they have adopted only goes on to prove my apprehensions that some people are conspiring against me being seniormost and pushing me to the wall to accomodate the junior people....", Prof Gupta said while speaking to ET. " Jo Katil Hoten hain Unko Bhi Suna Jata Hai.....Mujhe samaj Nahi Aa Raha Hai ki Mujhe Phansi Kyon De Rahen Hain.........(Even the version of a murderer is heard to ensure justice.....in my case I wonder why those at the helm are turning deaf ears), he questioned .
Refusing to divulge clearly as to whether this group would float party under a new name, Prof Gupta asserted that he would not act in a haphazard manner nor in a hurry. "Every thing now depends what decision is taken against the six other MLAs.....once the picture gets clearer further step would be taken", he explained. "My association with BJP is for decades.......I have always considered it as a national movement instead of a party.......I have spent my entire life to noursih and strenthen this movement because of the fact that in a sensitive state like J&K, such movement is required", he said asserting that his mission would continue to make J&K's complete integration with country and ensure justice for all the three regions.
