MIER organises workshop on “Writing a Scholarly Article/Research Paper” | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 2: A two days workshop on “Writing a Scholarly Article / Research Paper” was organized by the research wing of MIER College of Education. The workshop was conducted with the aim of enhancing and upgrading the research skills of the faculty members and the research scholars of MIER College. The resource persons for the workshop were Dr Arun K Gupta, Chairman, MIER Group of Institutions, Dr Adit Gupta, Joint Director MIER and Dr D R Kapoor, HoD Research wing MIER College. Dr Renu Gupta, Director MIER and Dr Surinder Kaur, Controller Examinations MIER College were also present during the workshop. Dr Annie Koul, HOD B Ed wing welcomed the distinguished resource persons and introduced them as experts in the field of research, having proved their mettle in scholarly writing and having the distinction of supervising various research projects over the years. In his inaugural address, Dr Arun K. Gupta highlighted the difference between a thesis and a scholarly paper. He acquainted the participants about the format of the research paper and emphasized that the scholars should be alert while writing the paper for a journal and avoid minor absurdities and impractical mistakes which can eventually lead to the rejection of the paper. The inaugural session was followed by general guidelines on writing a research paper and the varieties of Reference styles prevalent internationally. This session was conducted by Dr D R Kapoor. The queries and doubts of the participants regarding the writing of the research papers were also clarified during the session. It was followed by a highly informative session by Dr Adit Gupta in which the participants were enlightened regarding the usage and manner of writing references. Later, some practical sessions were conducted to give hands on experience to the participants, which included review of an article /manuscript, conversion of references in the manuscript as per the APA style, supervised study of articles in a few good foreign Journals, writing an abstract of a paper etc. Finally, the participants were asked to suggest indicators of a quality research paper.
