| 2 lakh registrations for Amarnath yatra, snow clearance on | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Jun 2 : Snow clearance and repair of tracks to holyAmarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas from shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam was continuing on a war footing as the annual pilgrimage is stated to start from June 29 for which over two lakh pilgrims have registered themselves so far.
In view of the threat by some Hindu organistions to start the pilgrimage from June 15 against theShri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) announcement to commence the yatrafrom June 29, the authorities have decided not to allow any pilgrim before the official date.
The SASB has also decided not to allow any yatri to undertake the pilgrimage without proper yatra permit.
Official sources said here today that both the routes were under several feet of snow, which has started melting.
Governor N N Vohra, chairman of the board, undertook an aerial survey of both the routes several times since the announcement of the annual yatra date.
They said Chief Engineer, Roads and Buildings (R and B) has been directed for immediate repair and restoration of the road from Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station, to Holy Cave before yatra takes off.
Hundreds of labourers and other workers were working to make both the routes ready by June 29 when the first batch will leave the base camps for the holy cave.
