CS reviews progress of Sheikhpora Migrants’ Colony | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, JUNE 02- Chief Secretary, Mr. Madhav Lal today reviewed the progress of the residential colony at Sheikhpora development for members of Kashmiri Pandit Community. The meeting was told that the revised cost of the project is Rs. 22.90 crore. An amount of Rs. 20 crore has been spent and the balance amount of about Rs. 2.90 crore is yet to be released. All balance works will be completed within the raised cost of Rs. 22.90 crore. Relief department was directed to immediately release the balance amount to JKPCC enabling it to complete the works. It was decided that the colony will be completed within three months and the utilization certificate will be submitted for the total cost by 5th September, 2011 and the Departments which underwent some damage because of occupancy of security force will be reasonably restored within the approved cost. The meeting was told that 4-6 migrant employees are being presently put up in a single quarter, which hampers them to bring their families along. As the purpose of construction is to enable migrant families to return (and in that process offer transit accommodation) the decision of locating 4-6 employees in the same quarter would need to be reviewed very quickly. Based on the discussion held on spot with the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam and the Relief Commissioner, it was felt that the residents of Budgam should be offered at least one independent room. Some issues were raised about the water supply to the apartments viz the takeover of the pumping station etc. by the PHE departments and the opertionalization of normal PHE scheme for the migrant colony. All these issues will be addressed within one week under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, the meeting decided. No./PR/DI/2011/1558/desk /gsj
