Only road connecting Doda, Kishtwar on verge of submerge | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, June 2: The only road link which connects twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar is proving fatal for travellers as the road stretch near Pul Doda is getting submerged due to overflow of river Chenab. With an increase in the water level in the reservoir of the Baglihar hydroelectric project, the inhabitants of Doda apprehend that the only bridge connecting this area with the rest of the country is gradually submerging into the river while the work on an alternative bridge, and road , is going on at a snail’s pace. According to State Secretary Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party Anil Parihar, the construction of the alternative road to connect Kishtwar and Doda district was started in August 2006, with a promise to complete the bridge before the commissioning of the Baglihar hydroelectric project as it was predicted that with the filling of reservoir, the only bridge connecting Doda would also be submerged. More than five years have already passed, but there is no sign of the completion of the road link as its alignment has been changed number of times. He added that due to apathy of administration and state government the road is getting submerged and from last few days few meters of road near Pul Doda has been submerged and vehicle has to pass through water to cross it taking great risk . He said that the night travel on this road is unsafe as over a feet of road remains inundated. He appealed that the civil administration should look into the matter or close down the road to avoid any mishap. Advocate Neeraj Gupta a local resident alleged that authorities have maintained complete silence over the delay in the construction of this alternative road link. Although 90 per cent of Pul Doda has already submerged into the Chenab, there is every possibility of the rise of the water level in the rainy season and the only road link at Pul Doda would also get submerged. “Kishtwar and Doda districts would be cut off from the rest of the country if the construction of the alternative route was not completed shortly.” he said. |
