JMC continues drive against adulteration

JAMMU, June 2: Continuing their drive , under the instructions from Sh. S.C Sawhney Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Jammu, the Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation alongwith team of Food Inspectors checked the quality of food items and inspected about 80 food establishments like sweet shops, cooked food dhabas / restaurants / reharies, tea stalls, milk & milk product shops / vendors, meat and chicken shops, ice cream shops / rehries, provision stores, sugar cane juice reharies, jaljeera reharies, reharies selling cut fruits, bakery shops in the areas of Indira Chowk, BC Road, Canal Road, Akhnoor Road, Jewel Area, Narwal, Sabzi Mandi (Narwal), Trikuta Nagar, etc.
During the inspection 23 defaulters were booked under the provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 and J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. An amount of Rs. 7500.00 (Rupees seven thousand and five hundred) was charged as fine from the defaulters and about 40 Kgs of stale cooked food, ice cream, bakery products, sweets, cut fruits and 20 liters of jaljeera and 50 liters of unwholesome milk and 30 kgs of rotten fruits and vegetables were destroyed on spot.
The team also seized polythene carry bags from various food establishments / other out lets especially from vegetable markets in the areas of Narwal, Indira Chowk, & Canal Road. The team also lifted 9 (nine) samples of different food articles like Fruit Juice, Milk, Sauce, Soda and sent these to Public Analyst Jammu for deducting their standard of purity.
Besides this, while continuing the Anti Encroachment drive, the Enforcment Staff led by Chief Enforcement Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation visited the areas of Below Gumat, Vinaik Bazar, Gurudwara Sunder Singh Road, Residency Road to clear the footpaths / pavements and seized the goods / articles like refrigerator stands, stools, chairs, computer tables etc. which were kept by the shopkeepers by encroaching upon footpaths / pavements etc in these areas. The team also lifted the reharies which were found stationary and causing inconvenience to the pedestrians and obstructing the free flow of vehicular Traffic.
