SHRC seeks report from police | Jumping of girl in Chenab | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 2: The State Human Rights Commission has issued notices to Director General of Police J&K, Inspector General of Police Jammu zone, Deputy Commissioner Doda and SSP Doda for filing detailed report in the light and context of the incriminating allegations made in the news reports about the jumping of a girl in river Chenab in Pul Doda. J&K State Human Rights Commission has taken suo-moto cognizance into the suspicious death of a young girl Rahida Banno daughter of Abdul Rafiq Rather of Bhalessa Doda who has reportedly jumped into Chenab river after police embarrassment. While taking the cognizance, the Commission comprising of Justice Syed Bashir-Ud-Din, Chairperson has passed the order dated May 30,2011 and has observed that having regard to the nature of the incident and the circumstances in which it happened, ex-facie police harassment, custodial torture and violation of privacy, all facets of right to life, liberty and dignity are committed. Even abetment of the/ neglect to prevent commission of the violation of the right are made out. The matter assumes gravity in the context of reported earlier two incidents of two girls Sangeeta Devi and Sapna Devi in July 2010, having been subjected to embarrassment/ harassment by the police, in almost like circumstances. |
