Tourists and pilgrims are welcome in Kashmir: Geelani
6/3/2011 10:38:09 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Jun 3:Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani today described tourists and Amarnath pilgrims as honoured guests.

'Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front' chief Mohammad Yaseen Malik and chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq also welcomed the tourists and pilgrims.
Addressing reporters at his Hyderpora residence, Geelani asked the youths to meet tourists and pilgrims and ''educate them about the Kashmir issue.'' Geelani, who has printed pamphlets in Hindi, English and Urdu languages, has appealed to youths to distribute these pamphlets among the tourists and pilgrims.
The amalgam chairman during his meeting with Kashmir Committee chairman Ram Jethmalani yesterday had said that people of the Kashmir valley are communal. However, he said, they are demanding ''the right of self determination.'' Geelani said '' You (pilgrims and tourists), whatever your faith, whatever language you speak and to whatever region you belong to, we are bound by a common bond, the bond of humanity to welcome you.
You are our honoured guests,'' he said in the pamphlet adding ''respecting and protecting you is not only our moral obligation but article of faith. '' However, he asked them,'' would you like to know something about your host? Can you spare some minutes to know about the Kashmir dispute? We have full faith, you will spare some minutes to know about this problem that has brought the entire region to the precipice of a nuclear war.
Your hosts are not terrorists or extremists. I and my fellow countrymen are not up in arms against any faith, belief, caste or creed,'' he said.
'' We nurse no grouse against people of India or for that matter any other country. Live and let live, is the cardinal principle to our philosophy of brotherhood. And on this rationale we want to strengthen our relations with others.'
