LC panel to study plan outlays of I&FC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 3: Departmental Related Committee (DRC) of Legislative Council today sought official record from Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) department about lift irrigation schemes functional and non-functional, potential of lift tubes, requirement and availability for its examination. The Committee sought documents reflecting outlays under plan, non-plan and other schemes to study the details of fund allocation. It also sought to know about the status of protection works carried out in Kupwara district during last fiscal. The Committee which met here under the Chairmanship of Ajay Sadhotra highlighted the need to have smooth irrigation facilities in place for farming community following onset of paddy transplantation season in Kashmir. It was observed that remodelling of canals and irrigation channels need to be done on priority to ensure adequate irrigation facilities for taking up cultivation of paddy. The meeting also decided to examine the working of Irrigation and Flood Control department in its next meeting slated for June 13 to have exhaustive review of irrigation scenario in the State. The Chairman directed Deputy Secretary, Council Secretariat Mohammad Maqbool Bhat to secure a copy of Dr Upal’s recommendations regarding conservation of rivers in the State. He said farmers have very important role in the economic growth of the State, adding measures need to be taken in right earnest to facilitate them in food production activities. Legislators Sheikh Ghulam Rasool and Syeed Rafiq Ahmad Shah gave their valuable suggestions with regard to the improvement in the working of the committee in line with democratic conventions and assigned role of legislature.
