Scorpio cab loot case worked out, three arrested

JAMMU, June 3:


With the arrest of three vehicle lifters, Channi Himmat police claimed to have worked out Scorpio car loot incident which took place on May 17 at Lakkad Mandi near Bhatindi on Narwal-Sidhra Bye Pass.
The trio involved in the broad day light vehicle snatching incident has been identified as Baba Ram, Kalu Ram both residents of Shibu Chak, Bishnah and Ashu of Narwal Pain.
The accused had forcibly snatched a Scorpio cab bearing registration number JK07-1456 near Lakkad Mandi, on the outskirts of city.
They had hired the taxi from Srinagar.
After reaching near Lakkad Mandi, the trio all of a sudden started to thrash the vehicle owner identified as Zakir Hussain son of Abas Ali of Kargil and threw him out of the moving cab.
In the process, the accused also stabbed the cab owner and fled from the spot along with the vehicle.
Bleeding profusely, injured Hussain was rushed to the Gandhi Nagar hospital for treatment while police after registering the case in this connection launched a massive hunt to nab the culprits involved in the incident.
In the meantime, the trio changed the number plates of the vehicle and started plying it from Kargil to Jammu as a tourist cab. The same vehicle was seized by the Kargil police and arrested Baba Ram who during questioning confessed that it was the same taxi looted by him along with two of his accomplices from Jammu on May 17.
The Kargil police informed their Jammu counterparts and accordingly Channi Himmat police took the custody of the arrested vehicle lifter. During sustained interrogation, Baba revealed the names of his two other associates, who were also arrested later.
Superintendent of Police (SP) South Rajeshwar Singh informed that police have succeeded in solving the Scorpio cab loot case in record time with the arrest of three persons involved in the crime.
Police also arrested a two wheeler lifter and recovered stolen motorcycle from his possession. He has been identified as Sunny of RS Pura, senior police official added.
