| Government considering restructuring of Agro-industries Corporation: Zargar | | JK Agro’s turn over touches Rs 43.19 cr this year | | Jammu, Nov 22 The annual turn over of Jammu and Kashmir Agro Industries Development Corporation has crossed Rs. 43.19 crore during the year 2005-06 resulting in net profit of Rs. 2.67 crore to the corporation. This was stated by Minister for Agriculture & Cooperatives Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar during a review meeting of the Corporation convened here today. The meeting was informed that the corporation was provided a budgetary support of Rs. 2.47 crore during last financial year and during the current financial year Rs. 1 crore has been provided to the corporation as budgetary support. The Corporation is running six commercial units under various sectors to promote Agro based activities in the state. The units run by the corporation include cattle feed plant, fruit canning unit, fertilizer and machinery tools unit at Srinagar, besides a petrol pump at Bari Brahamana Jammu which is earning an annual profit of Rs. 10 lakh. The Corporation is also running a cold storage unit for preservation and storage of fresh and dry fruits at New Delhi to facilitate the fruit growers and forwarding agents of the state. Addressing the meeting Mr. Zargar said that the government is contemplating for restructuring J&K Agro Industries Development Corporation for making it commercially viable. He said that the Corporation being a public sector unit has to made self-sufficient and vibrant by way of establishing more commercial units under agriculture sector. He asked the management of the corporation to identify and explore the areas under the sector for making investments to promote Agro based industrial activities. He said that instead of being dependent on the budgetary support from the government for its sustenance the corporation will have to be more resourceful and self-reliant by utilizing its men and machinery. He said that concrete efforts have been taken to bring out the corporation from sickness during last four years which have started pouring in satisfactory results. The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary Agriculture S.S. Sahani, Commissioner Secretary Finance Mr. B.B.Viyas and Managing Director Jammu and Kashmir Agro Industries Development Corporation Mr. Gowhar Ahmed. |
