J&K only exception not to follow All India pattern in admission to PG medical Courses | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 3: With J&K only exception almost all state governments have decided to extend the counseling timing for post graduation medical courses in their respective medical colleges after the counseling Period were extended by Central Government for all India counseling on the directives of the Apex Court. However the J&K is the only exception where the Government taking a unilateral decision is reluctant to extend the dates for PG courses in medical beyond the May 31, the cut of date for closing the admissions. The J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations which has already closed the admission process for the PG courses of medical in various medical colleges of the State is unwilling to extend the date on all India pattern. This has generated a lot of resentment among the hundreds of aspirants who were vying for these courses. According to these aspirants more seats in PG courses are likely to fall vacant due to selection of some candidates from the state in PGI, Chandigarh and AIIMS, Delhi. These students have however been selected by BOPEE J&K also. But securing a good rank in PGI and AIMS these students are likely to prefer PGI and AIIMS but they will not resign their seat in J&K till the counseling is held by the two medical institutes where their selection has been made. While the PGI counseling will start from June 11, this will be followed by counseling in AIIMS and the candidates from the state who seek admission in these institutes will definitely wait for the counseling date. Though the aspirants as well as their parents had made many pleas to State Government and the BOPEE authorities to look into the matter and extend the period of counseling by another 15 days in view of the same done at all India level but to no avail. The candidates and parents are in a fix as the BOPEE has shown its rigidity and took a unilateral stand on the issue there by playing with the career of promising medicos who by such a decision will not be able to be upgraded to the seats left vacant after the candidates selected on them seek admission either in PGI or AIMs. Perturbed over the decision the aspirants and their parents question the logic behind the state Government's decision not to extend the date for counseling or admission to PG medical courses despite the fact that some seats may remain vacant after the candidates from J&K qualifying in AIIMS and PGI as candidates getting better ranks there will definitely prefer these prestigious medical institutions of the country. Demanding that the Government should review the decision the aspirants and their parents ask the Government to give up its rigid stand and take a logistic view of the matter so that the aspirant candidate's career is not jeopardized. They also wanted to know what problem the Government has in extending the date when other state governments have already agreed to the same. Why J&K on every issue takes a unilateral view without knowing that with such decisions it is not protecting but harming the interests of its own people. Will Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah who claims to represent the youth rise to the occasion and take a bold decision by ordering extension of dates for the admission to PG courses on pattern of All India level is a million dollar question. |
