Srinagar, June 4 (KNS): A day after Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh, advised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to concentrate on issues in Jammu and Kashmir, by cutting down his frequent Delhisojourns on weekends, the firebrand Congress leader, Saturday clarified his statement saying Omar has hardly visited the national capital in the last four months.
In a statement, Singh said, “A section in local media in J&K has carried reports suggesting that I’ve criticized Omar Abdullah’s functioning, far from it I hailed his efforts in holding successful, credible panchayat elections after three decades.”
Clarifying what he said about Omar’s Delhi sojourn’s, the Congress general secretary said, “I just mentioned some media reports that Omar frequently visits Delhi to meet his family to which I requested him to avoid. However, I’ve been informed today that in the last four months he (Omar) has hardly visited New Delhi and most of his visits have been for official purposes.”
Singh pledged that Congress strengthen the hands of the Chief Minister to ensure peace, development and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a publicmeeting on Kashmir, organised by an NGO Anhad, in New Delhi on Friday Singh had also castigated mainstream political parties in Kashmir for failing to build bridges, despite people frequently voting for them in largenumbers, be that in assembly or panchayat elections, ignoring calls ofboycotts of separatists.
