Bhaderwah, Nov 22
Uprooted pipes and leakages along road sides is a common scene across township, while dry taps make it difficult for villagers to quench their thirst in Bhaderwah tehsil; courtesy PHE department which has abounded work on almost every new and old schemes in the area for unknown reasons.
It is worth to mention here that Bhaderwah, popularly known as Chota Kashmir has been brought on tourist map and a Tourism development authority established there to develop it for attracting tourists. In such circumstances it is very hard to buy the idea of tourists ever coming to have a look of the virgin valley.
The only filter plant in the area at Khaakhal on vital Sartingal road considered as the central nerve for water supply to the entire township has become defunct for want of laying of distribution pipes. Though, new pipes are scattered on all along the road for last one year, department has not been able to complete the laying work as yet`. Instead it has uprooted the old pipes only to let the water to flow on the road through leakages caused due to hitting of vehicles plying on this thoroughfare. Moreover, it is executing the work on its own in share violation of government’s SRO which has prohibited execution of works by the development departments on their own.
Interestingly, while the PHE field staff is going on snails speed execution of works, residents are often seen holding hammer and other tools to set their pipes right, whenever these are damaged by a passing Matadoor or truck. This correspondent of News Agency of Kashmir who recently visited the town is an eye witness of the situation prevailing there.
“Department took up the work of laying of pipes in our area about two months back but abandoned it within days for unknown reasons” laments a local resident . “They never bother about leakages and when any of the residents dare to object they threaten him of dire consequences” said another person of the area.
“We demand a thorough inquiry into every project started in the area as I am sure crores of rupees have been misappropriated” asserts a local political activists adding that the Chief Minister who claims to have launched a crusade against corruption seems to be unaware about what is going on in his own constituency. “The situation in the villages is grimmer, they take away pipes from one village and fits it at the other and this process continues for the whole year”, said a man from Malano village.
