| Separatists groups clash over possession of office | | |
Srinagar, Nov 22 Activists of Islamic Students League and Democratic Political Movement, both Valley based separatists groups, today clashed in Rajbagh area of Srinagar over the possession of office premises. The incident of physical clash between two separatists groups in Valley is first of its kind during the last eighteen years of disturbance. The separatist organization, Democratic Political Movement is a constituent of Geelani APHC group with Firdous Ahmed Shah as its Chief Convener, while Islamic Students League does not have any affiliation with either of the groups of separatist’s amalgamation. Reports reaching here said that activists of Islamic Students League (ISL) and its Chief Patron Shakeel Bakhshi entered into Democratic Political Movement office to take the possession of the premises that led to a clash between the two groups. Islamic Students League activists were claiming that the office belong to their organization. However, Police reached at the site of the clash to control the situation. Eyewitnesses told News Agency of Kashmir that the Police resorted to tear gas shelling and lathi charge to control the situation. Later, Police arrested ISL Chief Patron Shakeel Bakshi who was lodged in the Rajbagh Police station. Reports said that the fight between the two groups continued for about one hour resulting into huge damages the office premises. Sources said that , Shakeel Bakshi along with a group of activist first convened a press conference out side Hurriyat Office and claimed that his organisation was first to raise the voice for ‘self determination’ in 1986 which was later converted by some people into Muslim United Front. He said the present office of Democratic Political Movement original belongs to his organization and he will get it back on any cost. |
