Bahu Fort being developed as major pilgrim destination: Bhalla | Launches Rs. 95 lakh dev projects in adjoining localities | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JUNE 04- Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Mr. Raman Bhalla has said that the Government has earmarked Rs. 91 lakh for beautifying wayside open spaces enroute Bawe-Wali Mata shrine located in the premises of historical Bahu Fort. He said landscaping, development of view points, fencing, illumination enroute to the shrine and construction of Darshani deodi at Kalika Nagar, besides provision for all basic amenities, including provision for water and public toilet blocks for the convenience of the visitors are major works taken up for developing the place as a major pilgrim site . The Minister was interacting with the local residents after launching Rs. 55 lakh development projects at Gorkha Nagar, Poonchi Mohalla, Bazigar Basti, Manhasgarh and Shah Abad localities, here today. Director Tourism Mr. Robin Mehta, besides Executive Engineers of PHE, UEED, Tourism and PDD accompanied the Minister. The Minister asked the people to personally monitor the quality of ongoing projects in their respective areas adding people’s cooperation was imperative for completing the development works within stipulated time frame. He said Government is committed to provide all infrastructural facilities to the people across the State like adequate drinking water, electricity, healthcare, education, road connectivity besides better lanes and drains. He said Government has taken various new innovative measures for fulfilling the aspirations of the people adding that there is no constraint of funds in ensuring adequate basic amenities at their doorsteps. Mr. Bhalla asked the illegal occupants to surrender the State land voluntarily, otherwise be ready to face action adding that Government is planning to use the land available at various places for construction of public property like schools, tube wells, over head tanks, roads, bridges, offices, hospitals and multipurpose community halls etc. At Qasim Nagar, the Minister laid foundation stone of multipurpose community hall, coming up at an estimated cost of Rs. 40 lakh. He asked the Jammu Municipal Corporation engineers to complete the hall by December this year by using quality material. He informed that on its completion, the hall would be dedicated to the locals for arranging social as well as religious functions on minimal fee. He asked the people to protect the public property in their respective areas. At Bazigar Basti, Mr. Bhalla inspected the ongoing construction work of multipurpose community hall, coming up at an estimated cost of Rs. 40 lakh. He asked the Jammu Municipal Corporation to complete the remaining works within 15 days so that the place could be handed over to people . The Minister also visited the residence of one Smt. Sumitra Devi W/O Late Sh. Gyan Chand R/O Bazigar Basti of Bahu Fort whose son drowned in river Tawi and handed over Rs. 1 lakh cheque to her as financial assistance out of Chief Minister’s relief fund.
