Be united to fight for your rights: Gupta | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 4: Com. Gurdas Dass Gupta, Member Parliament and General Secretary All India Trade Union Congress gave a clarion call to the working class in the country to fight with unity for their rights and highlight the five burning issues concerning the working class and the poor sections of the society. Com. Gurudas Dass, in his inaugural address at the fourth Jammu and Kashmir State conference of All India Trade Union Congress, expressed serious concern over unprecedented rise in prices of essential commodities, which have been squeezing the real wages and income of the working class, mainly the un organized labour, who do not get any dearness allowance, to offset the rise in prices. He called upon the government of India to take effective steps on war footing, to mitigate the sufferings of the working class and the low income groups. Com. Gurudas Dass flayed the govternment and semi government organizations as well as the employers in the private sector for flouting the Minimum Wages Act with impunity, taking advantage of the ignorance and helplessness of the unorganized labour. The conference urged upon the government to take various projects of NHPC, Railways, Hotel industries, ITBP, PDD etc in its hands so that the employment is generated. It also demanded extension of EPF Act and pension benefits to J&K public sector as well as employees in the private sector, as per the Central Government rules AITUC also requested the govt. to avoid violation of labour laws in J&K and give proper attention to the interests of unorganized working sectors. The conference further flayed victimization of the Trade Union Leaders. It demanded release of all the pending arrears of voluntary retired JKSRTC employees and release of pending arrears of 6th Pay Commission to all the employees in J&K. They also demanded opining of Central Regional Fund’s Branch office in J&K to spare the Central Public Sector and Private Sector employees in J&K to go to Amritsar for settlement of their claims. It further demanded debarring the defaulting and fraudulent members of cooperative societies in J&K from contesting elections. The demand for reinstatement of all the terminated employees of SMVDSB Katra, including President of the Safai Karamchari Union was made forcefully.
