Harsh questions PSC’s selection process for Asst Director Statistics
6/5/2011 12:03:23 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 4:

Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party leader and MLA Harsh Dev Singh has questioned the credibility and authenticity of the selection process being held by the Public Service Commission for the posts of Assistant Director Statistics in view of several vacancies existing in the commission due to retirement of members.
He said that the selections conducted are required to be approved by the full commission which consists of nine members. He said that SRO 52 of 2007 stipulates that the commission shall compose of one Chairman and Eight members. He said that presently there are at least three vacancies in the commission with two members from Jammu region having retired only recently and no substitute having been provided.
Harsh Dev Singh said that as per prevalent norms, a Board Constituted by the PSC conducts the selection process which has in turn to be ratified and approved by all the members of the Commission. He said that with Jammu region having been deprived of its due share in the membership of Public Service Commission and existing Jammu members having retired, the apprehensions in the minds of Jammu youth of neglect and deprivation appeared to be genuine. Contesting the genuineness and authenticity of the selection process so initiated by the PSC in the absence of several members, Singh questioned the urgency of holding selections without filling up the vacancies of Jammu region members in the PSC.
Harsh Dev Singh further said that unemployed youth, students and scholars of Jammu region had been agitating and protesting in the past against the arbitrariness in the selections held by PSC and discriminatory treatment doled out to Jammu region in various selections.
Urging the immediate filling up of vacancies of Jammu region in the Public Service Commission, Harsh Dev Singh called for Justice to the unemployed youth of all regions and compensating the Jammu youth for their neglect in various selections processes held in the past. He said that while the merit needs to prevail, the aspirations of the unemployed youth of all regions need to be honoured without any ill-will, bias or prejudice.
