Party more important than individuals | After Prof Gupta axe likely to fall on 6 MLAs | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu,June 5 (KIP):-While the loyalists in the state unit of the BJP do not forsee any disastrous impact of expulsion of Prof.Chaman Lal Gupta on the party his supporters strongly believe that Gupta has been made the scapegoat by those in the BJP who have been having secret understanding with the National Conference. A couple of senior party leaders said that the way Chaman Lal Gupta had started campaigning against the party will have no impact on the BJP.They said "party is more important than the individuals." Asked to comment on the move of the dissidents to either form a separate party or revive the Praja Parishad the BJP leaders said that many senior leaders done it in the past but had not succeeded in denting the BJP.They said those who had quit the BJP to form a new par ty or revive the Praja Parishad had been left with no other alternative but to return to the parent organisation after they found that they were losing their relevance as political leaders. However, supporters of .Gupta said that the leader of the legislature party had been forced to voice his anger against the party high command because he was wrongly implicated in cross voting. They said that some of the leaders within the BJP were opposed to Gupta for having adopted anti-National Conference policy. Those who opposed him on this count had allegedly joined hands with Arun Jaitley to expel Gupta and his son from the party. Explaining it they said that a couple of BJP MLAs had been hobnobbing with the National Conference for the last several years and when this was being resented by people like Gupta those MLAs,who are alleged to have in cross voting in the legislative council election, had allegedly conspired with Arun Jaitley, who is said to be close to Dr Farooq Abdullah, for motivating the party high command for expelling Prof.Gupta from the BJP for six years. In reply to a question a senior leader belonging to the camp of loyalists said "we have kept six othr MLAs under our watch list.If they continue to indulge in the anti-party activities they too would be expelled from the BJP." He said "for us party is more important than any individual." He said once the dissidents try to form a new party or revive the Pr aja Parishad they will come to know how difficult it was to survive outside the ambit of the BJP.
