Time to recover water dues from Centre: Govt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR - The state government on Sunday said that time has come to recover all dues from the agencies which are using water resources form various regions for the generation of hydro-electricity.
Minister for PHE, Irrigation & flood Control, Taj Mohi-ud-din, told a gathering during a seminar titled “Management of water resources in J&K and State’s responsibility”, that “J&K Water Resources Act is all set to revolutionize the State’s economy.”
He said the Jammu and Kashmir High Court has already upheld the State’s stand on levying water usage charges.
“This year the State expects to get Rs 934 crores as water usage charges which are expected go up to Rs 1100 crores next year,” Taj explained.
The Minister said the revenue thus received could be used to get back the power projects from the Centre which have completed the stipulated gestation period.
He hoped that next year two power projects of 500 MW each could be taken back by the State and within next five years the State can get back 1000 MW worth of power projects out of this revenue.
The Seminar organized by J&K Citizen Welfare Council here, “unanimously demanded compensation for usage of water resources to regain the damage caused by Indus Water Treaty and effective implementation of water usage Act 2010.”
