Justice Kabir inaugurates Free Legal Aid Clinic

Srinagar, June 05: In continue efforts to provide inexpensive justice to the common people particularly to downtrodden, poor, needy and financially weaker sections of the State at their door steps, the Supreme Court Judge and NALSA Executive Chairman, Mr. Justice Altamas Kabir today inaugurated a Free Legal Aid Clinic at Court Complex, Pampores
On the occasion, the acting Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Mr. Justice F.M Ibrahim Kalifulla, Judges of the J&K High Court, Mr. Justice S. Vinrender Singh and Mr. Justice Mansoor Ahmed Mir, District & Sessions Judge, Pulwama,Mr.M I Qureshi,Additional Deputy commissioner, Pulwama, Mir Taraq Ali and other senior Judges, were present.
Highlighting the role of Free Legal Aid Clinics, Mr. Justice Altamas Kabir said that the main aim and objective of these clinics is to provide immediate relief to the disputed parties without wasting money and time. He said that the opening of these clinics are to intend to provide legal relief easily and accessible to the indigent and backward sections of the society. He said these clinics are like the Primary Health Centers where a doctor and other auxiliary medical staff provide immediate medical care to the patients.
Mr. Justice Kabir further said that the legal services rendered at the legal aid clinics shall be wide ranging in nature. Besides, legal advice ,other services like preparing applications for job cards under the MGNREGA scheme, liaison with Government offices, and helping the common people who come to the clinic for solving their problems with officials and Institutions. Legal aid clinics shall work a single –window facility for helping the disadvantaged people to solve their problems where the operation of law comes into picture.
Similar Legal Aid Clinic was also inaugurated at Tangmarg yesterday.
On the occasion while hearing a case, Mr Justice Kabir directed to Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama to provide immediate monetary assistance as a short measure and continuance monthly financial assistance as a long term under various social welfare schemes to a petitioner Mtr.Saleema.
