Cop among 6 killed as sumo falls into gorge in Doda | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 5: Six persons, including a police cop and two women, were killed when a Tata sumo in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Bathri near Gandoh in Doda this evening. The incident occured at about 6.45 pm when the ill-fated sumo (JK14B/617) was on its way from Gandoh to Thathri, police sources said. Sources said the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into about 200 ft deep gorge after its driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve. There were a total of six persons, including the driver, in the sumo and all of them were killed, the sources added. The dead were identified as driver Ved Prakash, son of Duni Chand of Kishtwar, IRP cop Subash Chander of Udhampur, Badra Begum, wife of Lal Hussain, Jenat Begum, wife of Noor Mohammad of Bathri, Mohammad Hussain, son of Fateh Din of Thathri, and Suman Kumar, son wan Chand of Idloo. Sources said while arrangements were being made to despatch the cop’s body to Udhampur, all the other five bodies had been handed over to their families for last rites after post-mortem in Doda hospital. Police had registered a case in this connection.
