Global warming, pollution major threats to our existence: Army | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jun 6: Global warming and pollution are two major challenges the world is facing, directly threatening our own existence. Army besides carrying out the primary role of guarding boundaries of our country is already protecting the larger interest of leading the way to address Environmental and Ecological issues which affect not only our country but the whole world, a defence ministry spokesman said here today. He said that a-month-long Fire and Fury Corps has taken an initiative and launched an'' Environmental and Ecological Drive'' at Leh in Ladakh region yesterday which will conclude on July 17, when an Army Mela will be held. He said that environmental and ecological issues are global problems and are being addressed at both National and International level. Besides, he said, the Fire and Fury Corps soldiers, the families, locals, school children, civil administration, Non Government Organisations (NGOs) also would participate. The aim of the drive is to leave a permanent impact on our citizens, be uncomfortable with cleanliness and how important it is for each and everyone of us to do something, however small to roll back filth and pollution from the face of this earth. Ceanliness drive started at the historic Zorawar Fort, Sakara Chowk and Leh Market. Events like the Spot Painting Competition for children with the ''Think Green'' theme, Green Slogan Competition, Resolution Tree writing by all and Tree Plantation drive. A large number of saplings were planted and number of jawans, ladies, civilians, school children from Moravian Mission School, Leh Model School and Army School participated in the drive.
