Peace imperative to strengthen social fabric; observe scholars

Scholars, writers, social workers, parliamentarians, educationists today unanimously underlined the importance of peace in strengthening social fabric and usher the State in to progress and development.
Speaking at a function, organized by Gandhian Global Family (GGF) to pay tributes to one of the pioneer member of the Family, Sunil Dutt here at Government B Ed College, the speakers observed that peace is of paramount importance in progress and development of the State for which every right thinking person should come forward and play his role.
It was Sunil Dutt, who had demanded opening of international airport in early nineties so that tourists are able to visit Srinagar without any inconveience and hitch, the speakers were quoted as saying. It was noted with concern that air fare from Delhi to Srinagar ranges from Rs.15,000 to Rs.18,000, which they observed hampers tourist influx into Valley in view of being highly exhorbitant.
The speakers demanded unanimously that night landing facilities should be made operational so that airport remains functional on 24x7 basis and fares are brought down to Rs.2000/- Rs.3000/- from Delhi to Srinagar to put an end to the sufferings of people on this account.
Speaking on the occasion, A.R. Shaheen called for involving youth in the peace promotion activities. He said peace is imperative to nurture age old Kashmiri ethos of brotherhood, tolerance and harmonious living.
S.P. Verma highlighted the role of Gandhi Global Family in universalizing the concept of brotherhood and communal harmony. He said the great ideals of father of nation Mahatama Gandhi are increasingly gaining popularity worldwide, adding Ahimsa philosophy as propounded by him is the best way to narrow down differences and cement friendship
Among others Director Information, Renzushah, Principal B.Ed college Srinagar, Showkat Ashai, Shahid Budgami, Mir Lasjan, Dalbir Singh and Maulana Sheikh Ghulam Mohammad were present on the occasion.
