JI silent over relation with Hurriyat (G) | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 6: The Jama't -e-Islami seems in no mood to discuss its future relations with Hurriyat (G) of which it is a constituent. On February 6 the Jama't had indicated that it may pull out of Hurriyat (G) by April after discussing the issue in it Shura (Central Council). The Jama't took strong exception to Geelani's biography by Dr Shafi Shariti which was released last year. The Jama't had accused the author of maligning the image of the organization. "The author has tried to project Jama't-e-Islami as a pro-Indian political party. He has further mentioned that Jama't was fed by Indian intelligence agencies. This is intolerable. The book has blown a particular person out of proportion. However, the organization that groomed that person has been ridiculed and condemned", he said. Geelani responded by issuing a disclaimer. "The views expressed are author's own. I do not subscribe to it." The book Quaid-e-Inqilaab: Eak Tehreekh Eak Tareekh (Leader of revolution: A movement, A history) shook Jama't-e-Islami forcing it to boycott future meetings of the separatist conglomerate of which it is an important constituent. Jama't did not react to the disclaimer. Geelani also said that he did not subscribe to the authors views. "But I uphold the freedom of speech and expression. We cannot curb a writer's freedom. Geelani also said he did not know the author. But when Shariti was arrested last month for `killing noted human rights activist, HN Wanchoo' Geelani expressed shock over the arrest. Informed sources said the Jama't would have taken a decision but Moulana's Showkaty's murder delayed the decision. The clkeric who also headed the Jamiat-e-Ahlihadees got killed in a landmine explosion near Gawkadal mosque where he was supposed to deliver a sermon. |
