BJP hand-in-glove with separatists | Jethmalani-Navlakha | | Rustam EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 6: Omar Abdullah-led coalition government took the right decision 8 days back (May 29) to deport sympathizer and supporter of Kashmiri separatists and dreaded Naxalites/Maoists Gautam Navlakha from Srinagar. He was detained at the Srinagar airport the moment the plane landed there on May 28. He remained under police custody throughout the night and was deported the next morning. It bears recalling that the state government had taken this decision fearing that Navlakha's entry into Kashmir might create a law and order problem in the valley and disturb peace there. The fear was well-founded. Navlakha has the capability of playing mischief. Navlakha is a known India-basher. He spews venom on India almost everyday and he supports the extremists in Kashmir to the hilt. He has been working for the disintegration of India since years and he calls himself a member of "civil society" and "human rights and peace activist." Actually, all or nearly all the so-called peace activists want New Delhi to quit Kashmir and accept all the demands of Naxalites, who kill and maim our security forces personnel almost everyday; who attack and destroy schools and hospitals; who kidnap people, mostly government servants almost everyday for ransom; who butcher innocent civilians; and who highjack trains and destroy railway tracks. BJP leader and sympathizer of Afzal Guru, convicted in the December 13, 2001 parliament terrorist attack case, Ram Jethmalani is, like Navlakha, Seema Mustafa, Arundhati Roy, Ram Puniyani, Amitabh Mattoo, Madhu Kishwar, MJ Akbar, Rajinder Sachhar and so on, also a "peace" activist. This senior BJP leader and former Union Law Minister, like all other peace activists, wants settlement of Kashmir issue - settlement acceptable not only to the Kashmiri leadership but also to Pakistan. In fact, he has founded what he calls the Kashmir Committee for the purpose. He founded this anti-national outfit almost a decade ago. He was there in Kashmir only the other day and the purpose of his visit was to interact with separatists and the so-called mainstream Kashmiri leaders to find what could satisfy them. He spent almost 4 days in Kashmir. During his stay in Kashmir, the BJP leader and Member of Parliament met Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Mehbooba Mufti, Saif-ud-Din Soz, former Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University Sidiq Wahid, Hurriyat Conference (M) leader Moulana Abbas Hussain Ansari, separatist leader Yasmina Raja and families of the arrested youth. He on Sunday told a local news agency, KNS, that his "KC will prepare an extensive document about the solution of Kashmir issue which will be presented to governments of India and Pakistan, besides the separatist and mainstream parties of Jammu and Kashmir" and that "he considers solution of Kashmir issue as an important mission of his life and intends to come out with a solution acceptable to India, Pakistan and people of the state" (read Kashmiri leadership). Earlier, he had expressed the view that "a mixture of Gen Pervez Musharraf's four point formula, PDP's self rule and National Conference's autonomy proposal can lead to a peaceful and final settlement." What he stated on Sunday and a couple of days before in Srinagar must establish that the BJP is in hand-and-glove with the votaries of independence, India-Pakistan joint control on Jammu & Kashmir, autonomy and self-rule and that it has assigned the task to Jethmalani. What he said also indicated that the BJP has finally decided to throw in the lot of Jammu and Ladakh with the Kashmiri leadership. Howevse should one interpret his statement that "a mixture of Gen Pervez Musharraf's four point formula, PDP's self rule and National Conference's autonomy proposal can lead to a peaceful and final settlement." There was no reference to what Jammu and Ladakh stand for. There was also nothing whatever in what he suggested and said which could even remotely suggest that the BJP has any place in its scheme of things for Jammu and Ladakh. The fact of the matter is that Jethmalani has been visiting Kashmir to persuade the Kashmiri leadership to accept the Vajpayee line on Jammu & Kashmir. A few days ago, former BJP national president Rajnath Singh had expressed the view both in Jammu and in Kashmir that the BJP wanted to settle the Kashmir issue within the framework of "Insaniyat." What the BJP leaders said in Kashmir is one part of the story and it is quite disturbing considering the fact that BJP terms itself as an ultra-nationalist party. The BJP is, it appears, more dangerous as compared to the Congress, notwithstanding the fact that the attitude of the Congress towards Kashmiri separatists and protagonists of autonomy and self-rule is also quite positive. The Congress shared power with the pro-self-rule PDP before June 28, 2008, and it has been sharing power with the pro-autonomy NC since January 2009. The other part of the story is equally disturbing. It is disturbing in the sense that the state government has not accorded the kind of treatment it accorded to Navlakha. It appears the NC and the BJP are on the same page. In any case, things are becoming difficult for the nation and Jammu and Ladakh. |
