Murder accused arrested, Patwari among 3 being quizzed

JAMMU, June 6: Akhnoor Police on Monday claimed to have arrested a murder accused who allegedly stabbed to death his friend yesterday on the banks of river Chenab.
They said that a police team led by concerned SHO Akhnoor under the supervision of SDPO (Akhnoor) Mustaq Choudhary conducted raids at the hideout of accused somewhere at Nagbani area and arrested him. He has been identified as Ranjeet Singh alias Rishu son of Kuldeep Singh of Ballan-da-Bagh. Rishu after committing murder of Surinder Sharma son of Girdhari Lal fled from the spot.
However, relatives of the deceased held protest demonstration against police for delay to arrest other persons present on the party. Protestors blocked Faoura Chowk for an hour which caused traffic congestion. The protestors were pacified after the intervention of senior police officers.
Meanwhile police sources said that police has lifted three persons including Patwari Bhushan, posted at Muthi Nehra, for questioning. Police is suspecting if a love affair was the reason behind the incident, sources informed. Raids to arrest those who were present at the party were on till late hours.
It may be mentioned here that Surinder was enjoying a party with his friends on the bank of river Chenab. During the party, sources said, some of the friends exchanged heated words with the victim on the issue following which Surinder was stabbed to death. Meanwhile, the family members of the victim protested in the border town seeking arrest of the absconding persons who were allegedly involved in the murder.
