Live Shell exploded, 1 killed 3 injured

ANANTNAG, June 7:

A man was killed and four others were injured as a shell exploded in Ranipora area of district Anantnag in South Kashmir on Tuesday. The explosion took place in Toor about four kilometers from the headquarter of Army’s 19 RR camp in Mattan in the afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Ab Hamid Dar of Barpora in Qazigund. He was loading scrap into the truck when the shell exploded.
"Abdul Hameed Dar of Bobpora Qazigund died while three others including two women Mubeena wife of Bashir Ahmad and Gowhara wife of Mohd Shafi Zargar and a non local labourer Dileep Kumar resident of Bihar, were injured who were passing through the area at the time explosion,” a police official said here.
The injured were shifted to District hospital Anantnag.
Pertinently, a similar kind of explosion took place in 2001 in the area resulting 10 dead including 4 children. The army unit is carrying the exercise of defusing the ammunition in the Rakhi Brah, a gigantic area covered by mountains in which locals enter for collecting the scrap for selling purpose.
It also important to mention that after Khundroo Fire Incident that took place in 2007, explosion of live shells in Khundroo and adjacent areas of Shangs is a continuous process.
“Explosion took place in Ranipora viallage at 12:00 pm when Ab Hamid Dar(deceased) of Warpora, Qazigund was loading the scrap into a truck, illegally collected from Rakhi Brah Firing Range.” A senior police officer told this reporter, adding that army and local administration has already warned the locals of the area not enter in the demarked area of army unit.
Police have registered a case against FIR No 59 under section 286/ 304 A and further investigation is going on. Meanwhile Shopkeepers observed complete strike at Verinag on Tuesday day against the Missing of a 30-year old youth Tariq Malik son of Asadullah, a resident of Verinag from his locality since yesterday morning when he left his home at 6 am in the morning to offer Fajr Prayer in the nearby mosque, however, did not return back.
