Vintage tank recovered from Ravi river by rising star corps | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 7: In a recovery operation, Army recovered a vintage tank from river Ravi near Lakhanpur area. On 05 Jun 2011, some villagers of that area found the tank like structure which was submerged in river Ravi. Immediately, they reported this matter to DC Kathua. DC Kathua asked for Army assistance and informed Administrative Commandant of Station Head Quarter, Basholi to recover the same. The Cmdt immediately informed his higher HQ. The Mamun Cantt based 21 Sub Area started the recovery operation under the supervision of Lt Gen AK Choudhary, GOC Rising Star Corps on 06 Jun 2011. After a long operation commanded by Brig JK Sharma, Cdr 21 Sub Area, the tank was recovered today morning from river Ravi. The tank which was apparently looking like a huge iron structure without any colour, emblem, insignia and broken canon is a piece of vintage tank. Villagers said it might be used in 1965 war which may be submerged during flood in Punjab. The fact is yet to be ascertained. Few villagers said that it was last seen in 1988 but the matter was not reported. Army has taken custody of the tank for ascertaining the facts.
