supervisor arrested from Basohli | BSNL wire theft case Absconding | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 7 : With the arrest of a BSNL supervisor whose name was surfaced for stealing the army cables worth Rs 20,000, the Nehru Market police is hopeful to smash the entire network of stealing and illegal selling of BSNL wires. On specific information Nehru Market Police led by Incharge Police Post Hilal Azhar conducted raid at Basohli and arrested absconding Labour Supervisor of BSNL cable work Latif Ahmed Sheikh alias Lucky son of Mohd Ramzan Sheikh of Sathra Tehsil Mandi District Poonch, said police sources Sources further said that raids to arrest contractor Jagdish of Himachal Pradesh and his associates Hamid and Mumtaz were on. Some BSNL employees are also being quizzed to reach the depth of the case. Police sources informed that the contactor has to submit the old cable to the BSNL authorities but despite submitting the cable they sold it to scrap dealers at the rate of Rs 25 per kg. The case of theft came to limelight when police arrested a BSNL labourer turned thief from Tawi area when he was trying to steal Army's cable. Identified as Mushtaq Ahmed Sheikh son of Abdul Sattar Sheikh resident of Loran Mandi District Poonch, the accused was in possession of an iron blade, a cutter and a land line phone. During the course of investigation, he disclosed the names of his other associates. On the disclosure of Mushtaq police conducted raids at the shop of scrap dealer identified as Pawan Kumar alias Kali resident Gole Pulli Talab Tillo Jammu and recovered army cable 0.9 mm worth Rs. 20,000. |
