Militancy on decline, not over: Khoda | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, June 8 (KNS): The Director General Police, Kuldeep Khoda, Wednesday said that militancy incidents in Kashmir have seen decline, ‘but it wasn’t over yet.’ Talking to KNS Khoda said, “Though there has been decrease in militancy related incidents in the Valley, the problem is not over yet. Police will continue its drive to weed out militancy from the state. J&K Police is ready to deal with any situation and maintaining law and order is our priority.” On the killing of a policeman in Sopore town this morning and presence of militants in the area, the DGP said, “He (policeman) was killed by militants. There are reports of presence of some commanders of LeT and Jaish (Mohammad) in Sopore and adjoining areas. In coming days anti militancy operations will be intensified in the area.” “We held a security review meeting on June 7 in which future strategy to was made regarding flushing out militants from Sopore area,” he added. Asked about presence of militants in Srinagar City, the DGP said, “There are certain occasions when militants from other areas try to sneak in to the City. But we have taken appropriate measures to counter it. There are no reports about permanent residence of militants in Srinagar.” “Security arrangements have been beefed up in the City. Checking and other security measures are implemented and we expect public cooperation in this regard,” he added. On militant rehabilitation policy, the DGP said, “The committee setup to look into the cases has cleared several names and they have been recommended to Government of India for further action. Both state and central governments will follow up the cases.” On the security arrangements for ensuing Amarnathji Yatra commencing from June 29, the DGP said, “Efficient security arrangements have been made from Lakhanpor to Holy Cave and sufficient man power has already been activated, and equipped with requisite logistics to conduct Yatra in a proper manner.” |
