Good Omar, Bad Omar: BJP a divided house
Dirty Politics

EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, June 8: The BJP has lost its way. It's also a divided house. One BJP leader says one thing and another leader says something totally different. A says Kashmir is a settled issue and B says issue would be resolved as per the cardinal principle of "Insaniyat." C says the party opposes autonomy and self-rule demands. D says the solution has to be based on autonomy, self-rule and four-point Kashmir solution suggested by Pakistan's former President Pervez Musharraf.
Their attitudes to the Omar Abdullah-led coalition government are also different. For example, the local BJP legislators, who got votes in the name of the people of Jammu and nation, have very soft attitude towards the National Conference. They have nothing against the Omar Abdullah-led NC-Congress coalition government. They have no grievance against it. Rather, most of the BJP MLAs are happy with it. Only recently, they expressed their solidarity not only with the Omar Abdullah-led government but also with NC and the Congress when 7 of the 11 BJP MLAs voted for the coalition candidates seeking election to the legislative council. It happened only on April 13 last. It is a different story that the party high command has suspended them from the party and declared the remain four not guilty, notwithstanding the fact that sources within and outside the party point out that those declared not guilty are also not "above board" and that they are also "very close to the NC leaders like Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah."
But senior BJP leader, noted lawyer and member Rajya Sabha Ram Jethmalani has different opinion. His attitude towards the Omar Abdullah government is totally different. It's highly negative. He has compared, nay equated, the Omar Abdullah's government with the German dictator Hitler's Nazi regime. He has demanded revocation of J&K Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and publicly stated that "lawlessness, corruption, nepotism and favouritism have become the order of the day." He has also dismissed Jammu & Kashmir as a "police state." Ram Jethmalani expressed these views on the other day in Srinagar.
The fact of the matter is that the BJP is vertically divided into two groups. One group believes Omar Abdullah is good and the other believes that he is bad. As for the people, they are not in position to understand what the BJP stands for. It's indeed dirty politics. The BJP may win the next general elections, but it would come out of the electoral exercise in Jammu minus everything. For, none in Jammu today is prepared to pin faith in this party.
