Assistant Director CAPD office raided by Crime Branch | Misappropriation of ration worth crores surfaces during scrutiny of records | | Sumit Sharma EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JUNE 8: Consumer Affair and Public Distribution (CAPD) department's ration scam worth crores of rupees surfaced during scrutiny of the records seized by Crime Branch sleuths in a raid that was conducted in the office of Assistant Director CAPD office here in Nehru Market today. The raid was conducted following the complaint was lodged with the Crime Branch Jammu. Giving information sources said that the report lodged with Crime Branch under FIR NO 20/2009 alleged that ration under Public Distribution System meant for people of Above Poverty Line and Below Poverty Line was sold in open market with the active nexus of CAPD officers and dealers. Acting on the complaint the sleuths of Crime Branch led by its Additional SP Ranjeet Singh Sambyal Wednesday conducted a raid in the office of Assistant Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department at Bikram Chowk and seized records, which unfolds a massive scam in the distribution of government ration. During scrutiny of the seized records, CB sources said, it was surfaced that most of the vehicles numbers entered in the record of CAPD office, used for transportation of the ration, do not actually exist in the Regional Transport Office, Jammu, record. This revelation erupted after cross checking of records of vehicles of CAPD with RTO, Jammu. "During preliminary inquiry it was revealed that out of 1000 trucks numbers entered in the CAPD record 50 are fraudulently registered , the toll may go up as the tally of records is in progress", SSP Crime Branch Johny Williams said when contacted. The trucks hired by CAPD are used for transportation of ration to other districts after lifting the same from go- down of Food Corporation of India(FCI) at Railway Station. Sources further revealed that most of the trucks whose fake numbers are registered with the records of CAPD are shown dispatched to Srinagar for transportation of ration. Sources informed that in this particular case government ration was misappropriated not in bags but trucks which caused loss to the public exchequer worth crores and the toll is expected to go high. |
