CM's assertion on foiling attempts on Yatra before June 29 ignites tempers | Reminiscent of 'Ek Inch Zameen Nahin Denge' statement in Parliament: BJP Is CM inspired by 'Delhi crackdown'…. must learn lesson from it: VHP | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 8: The deadlock between Shri Amarnath Shrine Board and Baba Amarnath Yatri Nyas continues on commencement of Yatra and the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's statement in Kashmir valley on Tuesday has made the scenario look like 'final showdown' on this sensitive issue . Omar asserted his government won't allow Yatra before June 29 and was ready to foil any attempt from any organization to launch the annual pilgrimage prior to the scheduled date declared by Shrine Board . This has not only affronted those taking contrary position but come as a fresh challenge to them, SAYN in particular terming the government's assertion and adamancy as 'provocative'. "The ruling leadership has once again resorted to such provocative statements which were made in the year 2008 that put entire state on fire……..it is reminiscent of the warning which this leadership gave in Parliamanet at that time… 'Ek Inch Zameen Bhi Nahin Denge ….." said BJP State Chief Spokesperson and National Executive Member Dr. Jitendra Singh . These provocative statements are being made with the twin objective of appeasing separatist constituencies on one hand and on the other hand seeking one upmanship in the race between their party that is National Conference and rivals PDP, he said. "This policy only amounts to holding Jammu and nationalistic sections of society to ransom simply to consolidate the political position of Kashmir centric ruling polity", Dr Singh said adding that all this politics is being done at the cost of disturbing peace and law and order in Jammu. Ridiculing the chief minister's statement expressing inability to provide security to the Yatra from June 15, he said that on the one hand the chief minister spends night under a chinar tree to show to the world that Kashmir is secure for tourists visiting the valley while on the other hand he feels it is not secure enough for Amarnath pilgrims. Citing the recommendations of the Nitesh Sen Gupta Commission Report of 1996, Dr. Singh said that the state administration is duty bound to provide security to Amarnath pilgrims but this does not entitle the state administration to interfere with the conduct or dates of the yatra which, according to Nitesh Sen, should be the prerogative of an autonomous, independent shrine board. Dr. Jitendra Singh also accused the present Governor of having politicized the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) and made it a tool in the hands of coalition government. The present Governor is responsible for having sabotaged the autonomous character of the SASB and thus having defeated the very purpose for which the Shrine Board had been constituted under the non-political chairmanship of Governor. Terming Chief Minister's statement as one reflecting dictatorship, VHP leader Dr Rama Kant Dubey asked the government to get ready for welcome of the Yatris who will start Yatra from June 15. " I believe Chief Minister is mature enough to understand the sensitivities and complexities of religious matters... he should read the writing on wall instead of taking confrontationist attitude ……." VHP leader said . " I wonder if he inspired by the UPA government gestures like crackdown in Delhi", Dr Dubey said adding if so he should take lesson from public sentiment in the aftermath of that crackdown across the nation. He said VHP and other organizations appeal to him not to create scenes of Delhi in Jammu or else be prepared for consequences. Pertinent to mention is that Chief Minister while speaking to media maintained that Yatra will commence as scheduled from June 29 and the government is ready to face any challenge from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other rightwing parties to launch it on June 15." He said there was still lot of snow on the trek en-route the cave shrine and he cannot put the lives of the pilgrims at risk. |
