SC allows Bhim Singh to mention Ramlila ground police assault

Jammu, June 9: The vacation Bench of the Supreme Court of India comprising of JJ B.S. Chauhan (presiding) and Swatanter Kumar in their oral observation permitted Bhim Singh, advocate & executive chairman of the State Legal Aid Committee to make mentioning in connection with the suo-moto notice issued by this Bench dated 06.06.2011 to the Union of India and others relating to forcible eviction and physical force against thousands of innocent yoga devotees at Ramlila Ground, New Delhi after midnight on 5th June, 2011.
World’s renowned Human Rights Advocate, Bhim Singh, in his special mentioning this morning before the Vacation Bench sought permission of the court to assist the court in the matter of suo-moto notice issued by the Supreme Court to the Union of India and other agencies on the most unfortunate, barbaric and illegal assault by Delhi Police.
Thousands of innocent children, their parents, women and old citizens of India who were falling asleep at 2 O’clock in the morning were attacked by the gun-wielding police in the heart of the capital, New Delhi, the greatest democracy of the world without resorting to principles of natural justice or rule of law thus brutalizing the cardinal principle of the Constitution of India mandated in Article 21 of the Constitution that, "No person shall be deprived of his right to life and liberty without procedure established by law."
Bhim Singh in his mentioning before the Supreme Court said, "Your Lordship’s decision to issue suo-moto notice to the Union of India on the sad event in Ramlila Ground is highly commendable, appreciable and State Legal Aid Committee which I represent shall feel proud to assist this Court to uphold the rule of law in the largest democracy of the world. I have been assisting this court for the past 30 years in defence of civil liberties and fundamental rights of the innocent citizens of India may I be permitted to assist this Hon’ble Court as a representative of State Legal Aid Committee."
