BJP demands compensation for Doda cloudburst victims

JAMMU, June 9:
The government should utilize all its means to provide immediate compensation to the people affected by recent cloudbursts in Doda district. These affected people should be compensated on the pattern of the relief and rehabilitation measures undertaken during the similar incident occurred in Leh. A demand to this effect was made by BJP delegation headed by National Executive Member Dr. Nirmal Singh, who alongwith State Vice-President Bali Bhagat reached Ramgarh Baggar area of Doda district to have an on the spot assessment of the situation.Dr Nirmal Singh after having interaction with the members of affected families and inspection of the cloudburst hit areas, said that landslides and flash floods washed away many precious lives, caused heavy damage to the standing crops, vegetables, cattle ,besides total damage to small hotels and shops on the road sides. Still dozens of vehicles are stranded. He said that three persons reported dead till now including Mohan Lal, Khalid and Rajjak belonged to poor families and their demise has left their families at the mercy of God. Poor persons namely Ami Chand, Prem Singh Parihar, Mangat Ram and Rumal Singh are amongst hundreds of such people whose cattle and residential houses have been washed away by the natural calamity. It is estimated that about 1500 families have been badly hit as the cloudbursts have directly affected them and resulted into number of problems for their survival.

Dr. Singh that just one dozer and JCB put into service is not enough. The government should press more such machines so that the affected areas are cleared of debris and huge piles of rolling rocks before the monsoons as it may cause epidemic. He also demanded that breast wall should be erected at erosion places so that in future the landslides do not occur and precious lives are saved.
