Children theatre camp-2011’ inaugurated at Natrang | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, June 9: ‘Children Theatre Camp-2011’ started here today with the lighting of traditional lamp by Natrang director Balwant Thakur. This forty day production oriented is being conducted in a highly professional manner by Sumeet Sharma who is a national awardee for direction in theatre and has specialized in children theatre after he completed his masters in dramatics. He is being assisted by Aarushi Thakur- a product of St. Stephens’ College, Delhi. The camp is being organized by Natrang in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi. The camp is being coordinated by Mohd.Yaseen. Speaking on the occasion Natrang Director Balwant Thakur said that Natrang pioneered the tradition of holding children’s theatre camps in Jammu in the year 1990 and produced the play ‘Mere Hisse Ki Dhoop Kahan Hai’ which created a history for being the first children play which was staged for over one hundred times and traveled the whole length and breadth of the country. This was only the beginning and year after year the Natrang’s children theatre repertoire continued to grow from strength to strength with the successive productions. Note worthy among them are, ‘Aap Hamare Hain Kaun’, ‘Bhag Beta Bhag’, ‘Charan Das Chor’ ‘Ek Tha Gadha’, Rang Badalti Duniya’ ‘Beauty is a Beast’, ‘Finger on Your Lips’ ‘Gifty’ ‘Main Aisa Kayaon- Main Vaisa Kayon’ ‘Andher Nagari’ and many more. These plays have been performed all over the country, innumerable times and in several prestigious theatre festivals. Natrang consciously evoked extremely new innovative concept in theatre for children. The aim is to move away from thrusting adult theatre on children by creating a new language of Children’s Theatre and a training process suiting to their aesthetic requirements. This result in the birth of ‘Children’s Theatre Workshop’, since 1990 which has been much sought after activity. The ultimate objective is not just to make them actors but to develop their overall personalities as meaningful contributors and members of the society. The children who are participating in the workshop include Manasvini Oswal, Bhagyashree Kotwal, Ojusvini Kotwal, Rhythm Misher, Gopi Sharma, Gauri Thakur, Kritika Bahu, Rhythm Misher, Arjun Gandotra, Chander Pratap Singh, Tanya Dogra, Hridyanshu Salathia, Chirag Anand, Sanchita Dubey, Vaanya, Vatsyayana Singh, Sanyam Gupta, Shreya Gupta, Shubhankar Baloria, Rishabh Sharma, Deepshikha Sharma, Chiranjeev Kotwal, Dhanshree, Gopi Sharma, Sachin, Divyan, Sugam, Isha Singh, Ishan Singh Srinan Anand, Bhabika Singh and Aksaj Rohmetra.
